Finding Contentment in Routine

contentment-in-routine

Good Morning!

First of all, thank you so much for the love and support in the comments on Monday’s post. It was a hard one to write, but once it was out there I felt so much better. It was what I needed to do to move on from 2016 and focus on the year ahead.

Now that the year is here I’m feeling much more motivated that I was initially. It feels good to be back our usual routines and I’m feeling really proud of all the work that I put into making our day to day run like a well oiled machine in 2016.

For now, I have no plans to set any big goals in 2017. Instead, I’m focusing on the intention of contentment and would like to hold myself accountable throughout the year. I’m not sure if this will mean setting goals monthly, but for now this feels right.

So for January, my goal is to focus on finding contentment in our routines. One of the main reasons I wanted to set and follow routines in 2016 was to make our day to day easier so that we could slow down and enjoy the little moments. It took a lot of work to get to the place that we’re in, but now that we are in them our routines do make things a lot easier, our life calmer and overall they make me happier.

In the past I think that I used this blog to myself accountable to goals that I was working towards, but what about appreciating what I already have? This month my goal is to ease back into our routines, take note of them and document them on here so that I can reference what’s working in the future when I find myself in need of figuring out what works.

What are your goals for January? Do you thrive on routines in your life?

Live Half Full Reader Survey 2016: Next Steps

Good Morning!

Last week I shared the results and some of my takeaways from my 2016 Reader Survey. I can’t say enough how grateful I am for all of the amazing feedback. I really took the results to heart and thought a lot about the responses, so thank you so much!

I’ve shared my thoughts on blogging a few times this year and have continued to think about what I want to do next. These responses helped to clarify my thoughts and gave me some insight into things I had not thought about.

With that said, here are my thoughts on a plan for 2017.

Overall the main thing that my survey helped me to realize was how much my readers were just like me. The majority of you are new moms, working moms and those with a similar mindset. I’ve struggled with the transition from blogging about my life pre-baby and worried about sharing too much, but I’ve gotten over that. I’m inspired to share more!

I was surprised to hear that the vast majority of my readers are not bloggers, but the vast majority of you found me through other blogs. So that sparks the idea of working on some collaborations with other bloggers. I have ideas in mind, so if you are or know of any working moms who blog I would love to know about them because that’s where I see my focus moving towards.

I’m happy to see that you feel that I blog the right amount. I have been feeling like three times per week was not “enough” and get a little bummed that my views have decreased slightly in 2016. Moving forward into the new year my goal is engagement I’ve come to be more happy with a smaller, more loyal readership base then trying to grow. I want to get to know you, so please comment and continue to give me your feedback!

I am encouraged by the fact that a lot of my readers are newer and seem to have started reading since I got pregnant. This makes me feel like I’m through the transition of going from a running/balance blog to more of an overall lifestyle, working mom blog and I’m excited about that. My hope is that I can continue this into the new year.

Now, for the fun part! Moving into 2017 my hope is to continue to share content that is relate-able. I worry sometimes about providing valuable content, but what I’ve realized is that the most valuable content is when I’m honest, real and share my story. This is totally something I can work with.

In 2017, expect to see my Mom Talk and Work Life series to continue and grow. I started these series earlier this year to give myself some focus and more structure to the blog overall. It also gave me a comfort level to share details on my career and motherhood without going beyond my personal boundaries. Moving forward, these are going to be two of the main “pillars” of my blog because I want to provide a relatable place for working moms to hang out.

I will be adding a new Date Night series! I was surprised to see how high Marriage ranked in my post topic question. I selfishly plan on sharing more about dating my husband since it’s something I want to work on in the new year.  So, I plan on sharing some of the “dates” we go on- don’t expect this to be traditional because finding time for each other is hard and it does not always look like a date night. I’ve also had some interest in sharing more about how we budget and how we manage our schedules with two full-time working parents, so I plan on posting on each of those topics at some point.

I will try to do day-in-the-life posts somewhat frequently because you guys seem to love them! In full transparency writing them is somewhat boring and tedious but I love reading them. I totally get it, so I’ll keep it up.

I’ll also be continuing to do milestone updates as there are a lot of you said you like to follow my story because we’re in the same stage of motherhood. So I’ll most likely do these in the same cadence as our doctor’s appointments, so not as frequently but still regularly.

The rest of my posts will be a combination of fitness, food, travel and any other things I’m going through at the time. As always, I continue on sharing my story in an honest way and I’m feeling good about this plan.

Thanks again for all the great feedback! I hope you’ll continue to follow along in 2017!
