When I got to 5:00pm on Friday, I had a bit of a panic moment. I had so much that I could do, but my brain just wasn’t cooperating. For a moment I thought about pushing through, but I realized that I probably wouldn’t be productive. So I made the choice to log-off and decided to do everything in my power to go into the office on Monday feeling refreshed and ready for the week ahead.
Our weekend was filled with good food. I started my weekend by making one of our favorite dinners. I turned on music, put down my phone and by the time the boys got home I was already feeling relaxed. We ended the weekend with another family favorite, enjoyed at the same time which is a feat with our typical bedtime timing.
With my stress levels high, I knew was in need of some self care so I made it a priority. I took two baths and booked a deep tissue massage on Saturday morning. I read during Buel’s entire nap on Saturday and thanks to my husband, I slept in both mornings.
Throughout the weekend I prioritize making time for me, we and us. On Saturday night we hired a babysitter and went on our first date since February. We thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company, had time to catch up during two quiet car rides to the city and checked a restaurant off our running list of places we want to try.
My self care gave me lots of time to myself and Saturday I had craft time with Buel and Rich took a few hours for himself. Last but not least, our Sunday started with our weekly tradition and a bit of prep to make the work week a bit easier.
Sunday is our family day and in the afternoon we got out and explored a new-to-us garden and art exhibit. Buel had fun checking out the kids garden and we did a quick walk-through of the beautiful artwork on our way out. It was fun to switch it up, enjoy some beautiful scenery and get outside in the spring weather.
When it comes to feeling energized, I’ve realized lately that I feel energized when I’m learning. I am constantly on the hunt for places to visit, things to try and know that mixing up my routine is good for me.
At the same time, I prioritize how I spend my time and know I’ll feel my best if I take care of myself, am prepared and spend time with those who are important to me. It doesn’t always happen, but when the stars align these weekends revive me and I’m happy to say I’m feeling my best this morning.
What recharges you? How do you spend your weekends?
