This week went by in a blur. Thank goodness we’re in a good groove at home because my days have been absolutely crazy at work and by the time we get through our evening routine at home I am absolutely beat. Today I am keeping things a bit light and sharing some of my April favorites!
Ice Cream Dates
It’s been over two months since our last date night out, but we’ve settled into a weekly ice cream date at home and I really enjoy it. It is a simple tradition but fun to look forward to during a long day of work and parenthood.
Coffee is my favorite vice that I’ll never, ever give up but I hate what it does to my teeth. I got myself some a Koffie Straw after reading about them on Julie’s blog. I did not realize how much of a difference using one made until I stopped for a few weeks and noticed my teeth getting a bit yellow, so I’m back to using them this week!
Outdoor Beer Garden Table
I took advantage of a recent World Market sale and bought a new outdoor dining set that I’m absolutely obsessed with. I cannot WAIT to host lots of meals on our deck once this spring weather leaves, this rain in Chicagoland has been brutal!
Small Great Things
I hosted my Book Club meeting last month and we read Jodi Picoult’s Small Great Things. First of all, I was absolutely hooked after the first few chapters of the book and would highly recommend for a compelling read that turns your world view upside down. It was a great choice for a discussion and lead to a great discussion on prejudice, privilege and the state of the world we live in today.
About a month ago I had a major case of wanderlust and we started to discuss trips we wanted to take this year, then I had a few work trips pop up and my summer filled in quite well! I have a trip to the Napa Valley for work in a few weeks, followed by a family road trip to Louisville in June, my first trip to Washington DC for a work conference in July and then finally we booked a trip to New Orleans for our fifth anniversary over Labor Day. I seriously love everything about travel- from packing, to flying to navigating a new place and I’m looking forward to my adventures!
Hidden Brain Episode 68: Schadenfacebook
While we’re on the topic of things that made me think, this podcast episode is a must listen. I’ve shared my thoughts on struggling with the comparison trap on social media in the past and I enjoyed listening to the research studies done on social media and how it makes people feel. It also reinforced my goal to share the FULL story on social media and on my blog.
What’s on tap for the weekend? We are going out as a family to celebrate my in-law’s anniversary with margaritas and mexican food this evening, tomorrow I’m attending a Hamilton theme ride at my favorite local spin studio with my friend Denise and Sunday we’re planning on prepping our garden for planting. Other than that, I’m hoping that lots of rest is on the agenda!
