A Look Back on My Goals

Good Morning!

Year after year I’ve set big goals for myself in January. Typically they are unattainable but they always lead me to push myself to work hard. As the new year approaches, however, I have yet to find the motivation to do anything big and exciting. I thought today it might be fun to take a look back at goals I’ve set the past few years to spark something for 2017.

In 2013 I set 13 goals for myself. These were very specific, big goals and not all of them were accomplished. At the time I remember being slightly disappointed but looking back I think that they were a good way to settle into life as a newlywed and helped set the groundwork for the things I wanted in my life.

2014-goals-1024x1024In 2014 I was a bit burnt out from goals and focused on setting eight intentions instead. Looking back these were a good way to continue the goals from the previous year with less pressure. In the end I made great progress and ended the year feeling great.

In 2015 I set four big goals for myself and set out to make twelve tiny tweaks to my life throughout the year. This was a good way to prove to myself that small things add up and when my year shifted to baby prepping I felt good about everything I accomplished and prepared to be a Mom.

This year I shifted my focus from setting overall goals to focusing on the key areas of my life- Self, Family, Career, Relationships and Spiritual Life. I set monthly goals in each area and these helped keep me grounded through all of the huge changes that happened to me this year. In the end I’m glad I used this framework!

Moving into 2017 I’m not sure how or if I’m going to be setting goals. I’m waiting for clarity to strike me but for now it’s nice to take a look back on what’s worked in the past.

What were your goals for 2016? Are you setting goals for 2017?

  1. I love your graphics! I started writing my own 2017 goals post and realized that I’ve definitely shifted away from a traditional New Years resolutions and more into an intention/mantra approach, mostly related to mindfulness & being present.

  2. I love all these different ways of setting goals and refocusing. I’m not really setting specific goals but just more of an attitude that I want to portray: one of thankfulness and kindness and joy. A tall order, but I’ll try 🙂

  3. This is so cool to look back on your past goals. I should do this! I know I didn’t accomplish all of my goals that I set in the beginning of 2016, but I truthfully just forgot about some of them – oops! I’d really like to use my blog more to put my goals out there and check in on them. That’s kind of why I started my blog in the first place.

  1. […] the past several years, I’ve started the New Year feeling motivated. I set big, lofty goals and set out to achieve them. I worked my butt off and when I achieved my goal I would set a new […]
