This week has been super satisfying and tiring for good reason. I’ve been up every morning getting to the gym, working hard all day closing out my 2016 work projects and then Rich and I stayed up past 10:00 every night going room by room putting everything back together at our house. I’m in the best mood today and feeling great about how the year is ending. Today I thought I would share a few things I’m enjoying this month with my last Things I’m Enjoying Lately post for the year!
First things first, I’m thrilled with how our house is coming together. As of today our house will be complete with only a few things left on our list. We have vent cleaners coming this morning and this afternoon our family room sectional is being delivered. Other than a few random tasks Rich will be able to complete tonight and the need to clean out our garage and storage unit in the spring, we can finally relax and enjoy our new house!
Overall I couldn’t be more relieved and excited to enjoy our house in the new year. I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want in 2017 and I am honestly stumped. This year has been such a whirlwind and finishing up our house somewhat serves as an anecdote for closure for a challenging year. I am craving peace and slowness and could use some time to slow down and reflect
I’m also enjoying my annual tea advent calendar from Davidstea. I’ve been bringing each day’s tea to work and it’s been a nice afternoon treat, especially because I have a cough I can’t seem to shake.
I bought this lace up sweater dress from Madewell when I was in Seattle for work earlier this month and finally got around to wearing it this past week. It’s so comfortable and warm and can be worn casually or dressy which I always love. I expect to wear it a lot more this winter!
I’ve been obsessively reading the Winter series by Elin Hilderbrand and am on the second book of the series with the third on hold at the library to pick up today and binge read over the weekend. (In my new bath tub!) The books are easy to read, entertaining and funny. They have been the perfect, light books to read during the past few weeks and have got be back into the habit of reading before bed to wind down. I think it’s helping me sleep better! (or maybe it’s a combination of everything else winding down as well)
As I mentioned earlier in the week in my recap of our trip to Michigan, I’m enjoying the combination of new and old traditions this year. I was expecting this year to be a bit harder than it has been and while I shed a lot of tears last weekend, overall I’m really enjoying the season. This weekend we’ll be sticking to our usual Illinois Christmas traditions and I’m excited to add one new one to the list. I’m attempting to make my Grandma’s cheesecake recipe for our Christmas Eve dinner! I can’t wait and I hope I do her justice.
I’m looking forward to an enjoyable, relaxing weekend with my little family and friends. I’ll be back next week with some scenes from our holiday and a recap of 2016.
I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a great weekend!
