In an attempt to mix things up a bit on here, I’m starting to write about a few new topics. First, on Monday was my new career series. Today, I’m starting another new topic I would like to write about, date night!
I’ve always wrote out new restaurants we’ve tried, our travels and my life in general but I would like to start being more intentional about these date night posts. It’s my hope that this will help encourage us to go on more intentional date nights, since it’s been two years since we have gotten married and continuing to date is something that I want to make a priority.
Anyway, onto last Friday’s date night!
After work on Friday, we got gussied up and drove into the city for dinner at Chicago q. I had been dreaming about Chef Lee Ann Whippen’s ribs since I had them at Food Network in Concert and when they invited me to come in and check out the restaurant in person, I could not wait to check it out.
When we walked in I immediately noticed the clean and cozy decor. I felt like we were transported to a Southern Plantation in the middle of Chicago and I loved it.
It was a drizzly and chilly night, so a bourbon cocktail to warm our insides what just what the doctor ordered. We both ordered the Bowman which was made with Knob Creek Maple, Spiced Rum, Sweet Vermouth and Peach Bitters. The drink was strong, smooth, slightly sweet and ended with a hint of spice. We both enjoyed it!
We had a hard time choosing an appetizer, so we went with two. The House Bacon Cheddar Hush Puppies were a no brainer order and were a great choice. They were served with a Chipotle Mayo which added a nice kick to each bite. They also paired perfectly with our cocktail.
The second appetizer we chose was the Blackened Farm-Raised Alligator, which was one of the highlights of the night for me. The last time I had Alligator I was on a trip to Arizona when I was seven years old and my Uncle paid me five dollars to give it a try. This time around I really appreciated the flavor and the fact that it was cooked to perfection.
For our entree, we split a platter and chose Brisket, the Ribs I was dreaming about and Pulled Pork. Our meat was served with their four signature sauces- Traditional BBQ, Spicy BQQ, Mustard BBQ and Vinegar BBQ. We sampled our sauces, discussed our favorites and then did not speak for the next fifteen minutes as we savored each bite of smoky goodness. The ribs were just as good as I remembered but the brisket won me over as well. Yum!
Once again when it came to dessert, we had trouble deciding. So, two desserts it was! The first was the Espresso Brittle Ice Cream- which was espresso ice cream rolled in brittle on top of homemade chocolate sauce. It was just as good as it sounds.
Our second choice was another highlight of the night for me- the Chocolate Mousse Pie. It was made with a pretzel crust and every bite was the perfect combination of salty and sweet. It was so delicious and the perfect end to our night!
Thank you to Chicago q for a great date night!
