When I first moved in with Rich, we used to work out together often. Before we got married, we even ran a race together. These days, we are both in a great workout groove but tend to workout on our own. I like to think of my workouts as my “me time” and schedule wise life is easier this way. So for now, we’re both working towards our own goals. Occasionally we’ll go to the gym together but our fitness routines look something like this lately.
Watching my first Rugby game earlier this season
Hers: I’ve figured out a routine that works best for me and have been doing Body Pump, running, swimming, cycling and taking a yoga class once a week. I am doing my first 5k of the season next week and am working towards my first sprint triathlon on June 1st. I support Rich by drinking beer on the sidelines of his Rugby games and trying not to laugh when he moans while getting out of bed the morning after practices.

His: Rich joined the local Men’s Club rugby team earlier this year after several years off. He has practice twice a week and games on Saturdays. He recently started following the Couch to 5k schedule on his off days and has a goal to do a 5k and 10k this summer. He supports me by checking in with me to make sure I did my workout for the day. His motivation to reach his goals is also keeping me motivated!
Do you workout with your significant other or do you prefer to workout on your own? How do you support your S.O.’s fitness goals and visa versa?
