My First Clothing Swap

After Spin to Break the Cycle on Saturday morning, I headed up to Maggie‘s place for our first Chicago Running Bloggers clothing swap!

When I walked in, I was truly amazed at the sheer amount that was brought to the swap and the variety. There were tops, dresses, coats, jeans, accessories, shoes, nail polish, books and more.

When each person arrived, they took the stuff they brought to swap and arranged everything into the designated pile. I brought some clothes, a few purses, some jewelry and a pair of shoes with me.

I did not get a picture, but, of course, there was a large spread of food as well- sangria, fondue, vegetables, cupcakes, chips and guacamole and more. If you haven’t noticed, in addition  to sharing a love of running this group really knows how to eat!

Anne and Emily catch up pre-swap

After catching up for a few minutes while the clothing was arranged, we got to swapping!

Lauren grabs a shirt to try on.

The logistics of the swap were pretty simple- everyone lays out their clothes, then we went through and chose items we wanted to try on, tried them out and then went home with some fun new things.

When we were done, Maggie donated the rest of the clothes to a local charity. So, not only did we get some new clothes (and clean out our closet), but we got the opportunity to help out those in need as well.

I went home with a new spring-y scarf and dress, plus an adorable black and white polka dot cardigan. I’ll definitely be wearing the cardigan this week and hopefully the spring dress and scarf soon!

Have you ever been to a clothing swap? How often do you clean out your closet? What are you most looking forward to wearing come springtime?

Comments

  1. So much fun! Love the stuff you got–especially that cardi ;-) I ended up taking your cognac quilted purse- SO pretty!

    • Yay! I actually never wore that person because it was too “fashionista” for me, but I loved it and it’s perfect for you!

  2. I’m glad you were able to make it out!! And I’m glad I rescheduled it … if I had had it on the original date (when it was snowing), I think there would have been three of us swapping … definitely not as successful! I’m excited to see everyone’s pictures pop up on FB and Instagram and see comments like “that’s my shirt!”

  3. What a great idea!!! I would love to do this. The blue dress is very pretty.

  4. Oh my gosh. That sounds INCREDIBLE. Free clothes and cleaning out my closet?? What more could you possibly want? (Food, of course, but clearly that was present as well). Sounds like a totally ideal Saturday.

  5. That sounds so fun! Was it hard to find sizes or was everybody there pretty much the same size?

  6. This looks so fun! And it looks like you got a few great things!
