After a pretty rough night last night, this morning I woke up determined to have a good day. So, when this quote popped up in my inbox from Runner’s World, I took it on as my theme for the day. I focused on my bare essentials and ran my day.
First things first, I got out of bed. I’m working from home this week so I can recoup and it would’ve been really easy to sleep in. But instead I got up, took Penny on a little walk and made myself some coffee.
Then, before I could talk myself out of it, I got on my bike. Cycling is my current favorite workout because I can get an intense workout without a lot of impact and my neck never hurts. I fit in thirty minutes, did my neck stretches from when I was in PT, the upper body strength moves from PT and then some planks. I’ve also loved doing core work and love planks, but I love them even more now because when I do them Penny sits with me and puts her paw on my hands. So. Freakin’. Cute.
After my workout, I sat at my computer and got my personal life in order and then logged into work. When I work from home, I typically log-in around 7:30 or 8:00 which I like because I can get a lot done before the day starts.
Mid-morning, I made these pancakes inspired by the leftover Ricotta in our fridge. Making myself real meals is one of my top reasons I like working from home, second to the quiet. Thy pancakes were delicious and totally hit the spot. I text Rich a picture of them and during his lunch he came home to have some and it was so nice to see him mid-day!
The rest of the day was spent logged into work with little breaks to get up and stretch out throughout the day. I took a break at lunchtime to take a bath which was nice and relaxing. It’s also been so nice to have Penny to keep me company. Now, I’m finishing up today’s work, watching House of Cards and when Rich gets home we’ll start dinner. He’s got Rugby practice tonight, so a substantial Spinach & Artichoke Wonderpot is on the menu. When he leaves I’ll be glued to the TV watching the Women’s Figure Skating Long Program- I haven’t looked at any spoilers so please don’t spill the beans!
So there you have it, a rough week made better by focusing on some of the bare essentials that keep me happy-organization, movement, good food and time with my loved ones. Now if I could only get a full night’s sleep and a glass of wine, it would be a perfect day.
