My heart is heavy tonight and my mind is in Boston. Honestly, I never really considered myself a “runner” until today. I’m not fast. I don’t run consistently. But I do love racing and I love the feeling of crossing the finish line. I’ll never win a medal. I’ll probably never qualify for Boston. But, today I feel like a runner. Today, all I can think about is the feeling of crossing the finish line of my first marathon. Watching my Dad and husband cheer me on. The strangers that gave me water and snacks along the route. Watching my Dad run his first marathon while wearing his bib number on a tiny red sweatsuit that my Mom painted with puffy paint.
Today I am a runner. And you know what I’ve learned? Runners don’t give up. When they are knocked down, they get back up, put one foot in front of the other and keep on running.
