Crispy Buffalo Tofu with Blue Cheese Dip

My husband is a champ when it comes to my crazy antics. When I asked him to try eating clean with me for ten days he said yes without hesitation. Twice. Then, we both decided that the way we felt was worth keeping this going.

The main craving Rich has is for buffalo wings. So, when I found this recipe for Crispy Buffalo Tofu on Pinterest, I knew I had to give it a try.

The verdict? He loved it! I wasn’t surprised because one of his favorite things I make is my Crispy Tofu. But, I was happy to find a good alternative to buffalo wings!

You Will Need:
For the Tofu-
1 block firm tofu, pressed
1/2 cup Frank’s buffalo sauce
1/2 cup flour (I used whole wheat)
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil or Cooking Spray
For the Dip-
1 cup nonfat Greek yogurt
1/2 cup bleu cheese
salt and pepper

Slice the tofu into six pieces and then cut them in half so you have four strips. Place the flour and buttermilk in separate shallow dishes. Coat each piece of tofu in flour and then buttermilk. Spray a medium size skillet with cooking spray or drizzle Olive Oil and heat over medium-high heat. Place the tofu in the pan in a single layer and allow tofu to cook on each side for 5 minutes, or until golden brown. Coat tofu in the buffalo sauce. Combine Greek yogurt and bleu cheese and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Serve alongside the tofu with some celery. Enjoy!

  1. Definitely trying this.

    • I’m interested to see what Brian thinks! I liked it, but Rich really liked it which I thought was suspicious. He usually does not like “substitute” recipes, so I was nervous he was humoring me! ;)

  2. Oh! This looks so good! I’ve never been able to get tofu crispy (at all) so I’m excited to try this!

  3. This looks great! I’m always looking for new ways to try tofu.

  4. Wow, this looks so good! I didn’t even know tofu could be crispy! I’ll have to give this a shot.

  5. Must try this! We rarely use tofu! You should try the “wings” at Native Foods. They aren’t spicy, but they’re fun :)

  6. I never even thought of breading tofu! Brilliant! That sounds so good

  7. These look delish! I love tofu :) How do you press tofu for this recipe? I’ve never done it before!

    • I just use a bunch of paper towels and let it sit, press the water out and do it again until its no longer sopping wet. You can also use plates on either side or let it sit overnight in a container.

  8. It was delicious. The thing I liked is that the sauce had enough spice with her Greek Yogurt Blue that the combined flavor was just what you get with a good wing. I think the trick here was she used quality cheese. In my opinion the dressing makes all the difference with wings or tofu or whatever. As long as you can get the tofu to be cooked to a firm texture so it is strong enough to pick up and dip it is delicious, even if you dont get your breading firm, just get the sauce on there and it is still awesome.

  9. Yum! I’m not sure these would satisfy my husband (who calls buffalo wings his Achilles heel ;) ), but I’d love to have this as an app when everyone else is munching on buffalo chicken dip!
